To Excess Rock Crawlers

In the early 2000s, in the sandy stretches and wooded trails of South Jersey, a small group of friends started spending their weekends exploring the backroads of Southern New Jersey and then Central Pennsylvania in their Jeeps. It began casually—just a few friends meeting up at trailheads, airing down their tires, and seeing where the day took them. The rides were equal parts rock crawling, mud bogs, laughter, and improvisation, and the friends soon realized they’d stumbled upon something worth holding onto. They jokingly started calling themselves the To Excess Rock Crawlers, unaware that a simple nickname would soon turn into an identity.

As the months passed, more people joined their weekend adventures. Someone posted a trail photo online, someone else invited a friend from work, and the group began to grow. The club’s reputation was built on its easygoing spirit: a mix of rugged exploration and community, where encouragement flowed as steadily as the mud that caked their Jeeps.

Traditions formed naturally. There were camping runs in Central Pennsylvania hitting the trails at Rausch Creek Off Road Park, long days of off-roading in the New Jersey pine barrens, and more. What truly defined the club, though, was how its members treated one another. Whether someone got stuck axle-deep in muck or a someone needed help swapping parts in a driveway, they always showed up for one another.

But like all things built from passion, time eventually pressed its weight on the group. Schedules changed, families grew, people moved away, and eventually, the club dissolved.

Even so, the spirit of the club didn’t disappear. Former members still cross paths on trails or wave when they pass another modded Jeep on the highway. They carry with them the memory of long days turning into campfire nights, of grit, teamwork, and discovery. 2XSRC may no longer exist as a formal club, but its legacy remains etched in the ruts of the trails they once traveled—and in the friendships forged in mud, sand, and adventure.
